Campaign to Build The Legacy at Willow Bend Exceeds $12 Million in Funding

DALLAS, TX (August 18, 2006) -- The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc. announced that the first phase of the campaign to build The Legacy at Willow Bend, a premier life care senior living community now under construction on 28 acres at Spring Creek Parkway and Ohio Drive in Plano, Texas, has raised more than $12 million.

"The response to our vision for a Jewish-sponsored senior community serving people of all faiths has been very gratifying," said Michael J. Ellentuck, president and CEO of The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc. "These generous grants from our donors have enabled us to further our development of a community that will offer unparalleled retirement style and services for area seniors, along with the peace of mind our life care program offers."

Duke Rudman Family provided the lead gift for the development of The Legacy at Willow Bend.
Other gifts include:

  • Kalman and Ida Wolens Foundation ($ 3,000,000)
  • Greater Dallas Jewish Community Capital Campaign ($ 1,650,000)
  • The M.B. Zale Foundation and The Abe Zale Foundation ($800,000)
  • Carol and Steve Aaron Family ($500,000)
  • Stanley Family Philanthropic Funds ($350,000)
  • The Pollock Foundation ($250,000)

Groundbreaking for the community was celebrated in October, 2005, and construction is scheduled for completion in late 2007. The Legacy at Willow Bend will be comprised of 103 independent living apartment homes; 16 custom independent living villas; 40 assisted living apartment homes, 18 memory support suites, and 60 private skilled healthcare suites specializing in short-term rehabilitation services, said Mr. Ellentuck.

The Legacy at Willow Bend will be the first life care community in Collin County. The gated community will feature resort-like amenities such as restaurant-style dining, a vitality spa, a fitness center with an indoor lap and resistance walking pool, a library, an art studio, and concierge services. The one-time entry fee, which is 90 percent refundable, gives the residents lifetime use of their apartment home and priority access to quality healthcare if needed.

The Legacy at Willow Bend is owned by The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc., a not-for-profit charitable organization that has supported the north Texas community for more than 50 years by providing services to seniors at Golden Acres, located in east Dallas. The Information Center is located in The Village on the Parkway Shopping Center (southwest corner of Belt Line and Montfort) at 5100 Belt Line Road, Suite 430, Dallas, Texas 75254, (972) 387-3779.
