The Legacy Senior Communities is a Non-Profit charitable organization which began serving the Jewish elderly in 1953 with the opening of the Dallas Home for the Jewish Aged’s Golden Acres campus. In 2007, the Golden Acres campus was sold to a for-profit company and continues to operate as a non-faith-based facility. Golden Acres is no longer a recipient of funds from the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas (JFGD), nor is it part of the Jewish community network of services. The Legacy Senior Communities continues to manage the Echad Apartments located on the Golden Acres campus. Echad provides low income government housing and was built in response to accommodating the early wave of Jewish immigrants in need of affordable housing.
